I was a victim of a crime which made national then international news. One of my assailants was a famous con-artist who had a movie made about his life of crime before. A production company signed me to a contract on a project wherein I’m the “artist” & a “Producer”. We interviewed directors & hired a seasoned documentarian w/9 Emmys to his credit. In 2 weeks, we are going to interviews w/Netflix, Amazon, Lifetime & Oxygen to name a few who’ve expressed an interest in this project.. I don’t know anything about this whole process yet since this story’s about my life & my ordeal, I need someone (an atty?) who’s an advocate of mine & vested in my best interest. I want this project to truthfully reflect my ordeal; not have things changed for theatric value. The production company is on my side as best they can be, but see this as their project; they’ve warned me that I might not like changes as they occur. The directors all over the place & is dismissive of me as if I’m peripheral to this project. I feel I need a legal advocate who can champion my rights once this project is picked up & we proceed with its development. Can an atty be hired for a project like this?
